Govee vs Trimlight
vs Gemstone

Central Texas homeowners usually get quoted one of these three. Here's how they compare on cost, warranty and who owns the lights, using each company's own published numbers.

Side by side

The short version

Govee costs far less and you own the lights outright. Trimlight and Gemstone cost more and carry a longer product warranty, but they're sold only through dealers. We install Govee only, so read the table with that in mind.

Where Govee wins

Lower cost, and the lights are yours

  • A fraction of the cost. Most dealer jobs start around $4,000; a single-story with us starts around $880, lights included.
  • You see every number. Govee's price for the lights, our price for the install. No hidden hardware markup.
  • Parts at any store. If a section ever fails, replacements are sold at retail, not just through one dealer.
  • Already own a kit? We'll install it at the same per-foot price.

Where dealer systems win

Longer product warranty, one company for everything

  • Longer product warranty. Trimlight and Gemstone back their lights for far longer than Govee's consumer warranty.
  • One call for parts and labor. The dealer handles both, for as long as that dealer is in business.
  • Hidden in daylight by default. Their track conceals the lights. With our standard or screwed-in install the lights are visible up close; our track install hides them.
  • Good fit if you want the longest product coverage and don't mind paying more for it.

The usual knock on Govee is that DIY installs are stuck on with adhesive and the wires show. That's an installation problem, not a light problem. See how we install it →

FAQ

Govee, Trimlight or Gemstone?

Is Govee as good as Trimlight or Gemstone?

They're different products. Trimlight and Gemstone are dealer-only systems with much longer product warranties, and their track hides the lights in daylight. Govee is a retail product that costs far less, and you own it outright. If the longest product warranty matters most to you, a dealer system is worth the extra cost. If price and owning your lights matter most, Govee is the better value, and our channel-track install gives you the hidden look too.

Why is Govee cheaper?

Govee sells its lights at retail, so you pay the store price with no dealer markup. Dealer systems bundle the lights, the track and the labor into one per-foot price, and the hardware is only sold through dealers. Govee's product warranty is also shorter, which is part of the difference.

Can you install Trimlight or Gemstone lights?

No. Both are sold and installed only by their own authorized dealers. We install Govee permanent outdoor lights only: Lights 2, Pro, Prism, 2 Pro and the Costco/Sam's Club Elite kits.

What does Govee cost installed?

Our installs start at $4 per foot ($400 minimum), $5 per foot with every light screwed in, or $8 per foot with color-matched track, plus the Govee lights (about $280 to $860 for most homes, depending on the model). Your price depends on roofline length, height and mounting. We measure for free and give you a written quote.
